Something Different

October 16th, 2008

Looking for something different to talk about?  Are you tired of cnn, msnbc, fox?  Then check this out!  I frequently watch “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” when I want a different perspective on life.

Now I know these guys are not “serious” news, well, maybe they are!  Think about it! Just because these are comedy news programs does not in any way mean they are not serious. They still express their own opinions no matter how far fetched they might be (just like any other news reporter does these days).

On the Colbert Report last night he had a guest who runs a very interesting “news” website. The Daily Beast is what I would call - fun! Now if you need to know what is going on in the world but don’t have time, check it out. You can run through the days events lickity split!!  Just take a look for yourself and see. It has sarcasum, humor and packs a punch - just what the doctor ordered in a cracked economy and smearing presidential season!

Are we there yet?

October 8th, 2008

I know everyone is familiar with this phrase, but come on!  I feel like I have been watching cnn for years now!

I really am anxious to go out there and cast my vote and get this ball rolling, aren’t you? Every day seems endless, hours of debate, mud slinging, beer bashing - (well the beer bashing didn’t really start until about 6 weeks ago when Palin came into the picture - but you get my drift!) and now it should be time to vote already right?

Wrong!  Apparently there are still those few out there that seem to be stuck on who to vote for. Now I am no rocket scientist, but this thing has gone on for a year and a half  and we should have made up our minds by now.

In the past - with other elections - I was there. I had a hard time choosing who’s side I was on. And maybe it was not a great idea on my part to be uninformed about the issues. However, now is the most important time of our lifetime. We can honestly say we have ALL been touched by the crisis our country is in. Even those who are more funtunate have complained about the recent crunch. So we seem concerned now - and SHOULD be!

If you have been paying attention to the latest debates - they all like to put the everloving foot in mouth and exaggerate their way to victory. Some better then others I might add!

And I am really tired of listenin to the mud. (Mud talks ya know)  Hey I sound six-packish too! UG!

Hurry up and wait!

July 16th, 2008

Do you feel like you are always waiting for something?  I do. All the time!  I am not sure why I feel this way but seems like something important is about to happen, and when it does - That’s IT!  It’s all over - no more waiting!

Now we know that is not true - we wait for things to happen all the time, and then there’s more waiting after that!  We wait for the weekend, for a party, for a holiday, for the next pay day, for that great lottery win, for the cows to come home!

I get tired of waiting too. I guess saying is - stop waiting for things to happen! MAKE them happen! We why do we have to do that?  Things will just happen anyway - right?

I also have a hard time waiting for other people to get my task done. You know, sometimes you have something to do and it would be done already - if that person you rely one would just do the part they are supposed to. I guess I am a bit impatient here - not very calm when my task depends on others.

Patience is definately a learned task. People are not born with it - and it can take years to master. We all have to rely on the “waiting machine” with everything we do. We wait for the light to change, (now I have seen some VERY impatient people at lights!) we wait for service in restaurants, we wait in lines sometimes just to go to the bathroom.

Then - when we tire from waiting - we wish!  Ah- now that’s where we get into a great deal of trouble!  We wish they would all hurry up!

As my mom used to say - “Your going to wish your life away!”  Maybe I should just be comfortable waiting…

Hmmm, where DID the time go?

July 11th, 2008

Just the other day I started thinking about technology and how far it has gone in just - drum roll please - 20 YEARS?  Yes that is correct - only 20 years ago everyday folks started buying computers for their home. Now obviously there were some geeky ones out there that might have had one earlier - but really the populous just started about 20 years ago.

If you think about it - we have come a long way!  In fact cell phones have not been around too long either - but my children do not remember a time when they did not have these luxuries.

Here are some interesting facts!  Be careful - this has a danger of making you feel old!

Historical Tech Facts:

  1. The URL: http://akebono.stanford.edu/ used to be the original home of Yahoo!
  2. Domain registration was free until the National Science Foundation decided to change this on September 14th, 1995.
  3. In 1993, Boeing was the first to discover the Y2K problem.
  4. Lee Stein invented the first online electronic bank in 1994 entitled, “First Virtual Holdings”.
  5. The first Internet Service Provider (ISP) was CompuServe which is now under control of AOL Time Warner.

More information abounds at the Computer History Museum - Online of course!

I find this all very interesting and some may not - but it’s definately hard to remember the day when we had a small black and white TV, one phone (connected to a party line) - I bet some of you don’t even know what that is!  We did not have a computer, cell phone, the internet and if I wanted to look something up - I had to go to the library (still very limited in a small town!) and find out where to go from there. Most of the time you gave up the search before finding the information.

I feel very fortunate to be in the world today - we are so informed and enlightened. We have a world of information at our fingertips and use it daily - (Just like I did for this Blog!)

Keeping up with the “Jones’s”

June 27th, 2008

Did you ever feel like your loosing ground? I do! Sometimes - all of this new technology get’s me down. I try to keep up - getting new books, new software, trying new techniques - unfortunatley we all get bogged down eventually with our new stuff.

Stuff everywhere - seems we never get enough stuff to keep up.  I have noticed lately that I am not alone. Large companies like Microsoft, HP, Adobe - seem to always be at the for-front of making our technical lives miserable - yet most folks are still in the early 90’s when it comes to updating their stuff.

I am a webdesigner and find that websites are changing faster then the technology these days - however many sites out there still have that look and feel as though they were created over an hour in someones garage.

Now I am no different then the next Joe (bob, charley, or whoever that is) when it comes to regretting updates to things gone old - but it really is important to “freshen up” things a bit on the web.

What I mean by that is - get another opinion, look around, see what the neighbors (the whole world) are doing and clean up your act!  The best way to begin is get a web design team to work on it!  May cost a few bucks but it goes along way in the web world!

Keeping up the the Jonse’s is important when it means business!  Your business needs to grow and your customers will never find you without some great SEO services too!  Can you imaging how many businesses are on the web by now? How will anyone find you if you don’t have something great in place to grab their attention.

Do - me a favor too - think about some of your favorite web sites and go browse them. Then look at yours. Do you think your customers like what they see?  If not - let us help make it enjoyable, informative, and most importantly - a profitable business web site for you!
